The reality of selfcare in postpartum

Okay, I thought I would be so much more consistent with writing and the whole postpartum selfcare thing.

I just read my previous post and at the time I really thought I would be able to start a "regimented" selfcare schedule. My baby is 9 months and guess what: No I have not meditated every day or worked out every day. What I did do though is slowly letting go about the house being perfectly tidy at the end of every day. (and that is my new selfcare move).

Another thing I did is changing the order I do things once I have done bedtime. I used to clean, tidy up toys, do the dishes etc. and THEN eat. Now I eat, rest, and then tidy up and clean. Such a simple thing but it has been a game changer in how I feel. I still feel tired but not resentful or exhausted because I nourished my body before doing an other chore!

9 months postpartum is beautiful, still tiring in its own way but I can say that I have really been enjoying to see Noah thrive and develop more and more. I can say that from 8 months it has been even more enjoyable to see him do something new every day. Either it'd be a new movement, some new sounds, laughs, etc. It is truly a delight to get to spend every day with him.

Selfcare still does not look like I imagined and I think what is slowly helping me is to accept that it will not look like it used to. It is okay that I do not have 4 hours in the day to dedicated to me and myself only (I did really take the time to enjoy all the free time I used to have yes!). Now, I get to squeeze the selfcare I choose within the hour I have left at the end of the day once I have done everything that needed to be done. And that is okay, what is making it all positive is the acceptance of it, to not fight to get back the exact same way I used to take care of myself.

Eventually, we will get all the time again and we will miss what is happening now, so I am soaking it in as much as I can. That being said, nourishing your body before attacking some more evening chores is a must, and taking 10 minutes before bed for some skincare or other things to make you feel good, is definitely worth it.

I used to freak out if I went bed after 10pm... but now no matter what, I do my skincare, take the time to do the little things before going bed. Maybe I loose a few minutes of sleep but I gain in feeling better in my body, in myself.
